Stephen Covey was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in the United States to his father Stephen Glenn Covey and his mother Irene Louise Richards Covey. He attended high school where he was a fan of sports and physical activities until he received a rare diagnosis of slipped capital femoral epiphysis which limited the successful writer to academic events only such as debates and public speaking which he participated in often.

Following his Church mission in England, the professional returned to the US and attended Harvard University where he studied religious education and achieved an MBA. After finishing his education in 1962, Stephen Covey continued to lead the Church mission, for the Irish this time.

Returning to his personal life, Stephen went on to marry Sandra Covey who continued to showcase his works following his death.
