This explores how love is complex and the truth search in humans and meaning through the lives of historical figures across centuries, starting with astronomer Johannes Kepler. It ends with marine biologist Rachel Carson who started the environmental movement. From these lives become larger questions about what a good life is and what can lead to a better world. The book goes through a series of peripheral figures including; Walt Whitman, Charles Darwin and Herman Melville. As well as a vast amount of themes such as; philosophy, poetry, astronomy, religion, science, feminism and music.
